Privacy notice
Last updated: 29 October 2026
AerDefence Ltd ("AerDefence", "we", "us") operates a drone detection service for events, airports, critical infrastructure, stadiums, and estates. This notice explains what data we collect from our website and our deployed sensors, how we store it, and how you can request access or deletion.
1. Data we collect
From aerdefence.ie: contact-form submissions, which are transmitted to our operations desk and retained for no longer than twenty-four months.
We also use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages are read. It is not loaded unless you accept it. If you do, it sets cookies in your browser (_ga and _ga_*, which expire after two years) and assigns your browser a randomly generated client ID, so returning visits can be counted as the same visitor. It records page path, referrer, approximate location from your IP address, and device and browser type. We do not use it for advertising: advertising, ad personalisation and ad user data are all disabled. We do not combine it with anything you send us through the contact form, and we do not use it to identify you.
We also use the LinkedIn Insight Tag, so that LinkedIn can show you our advertising and tell us which of our ads led to an enquiry. It is not loaded unless you accept it. If you do, LinkedIn sets its own cookies in your browser and receives your IP address, the page you are on, your browser and device, and a timestamp. If you are signed in to LinkedIn, LinkedIn can connect that visit to your LinkedIn account; what LinkedIn then does with it is governed by LinkedIn's own privacy and cookie policies, not ours. We only ever see it as counts and aggregates, never as a list of named visitors.
The same Accept covers both the analytics and the LinkedIn cookies, and Decline means neither is loaded and nothing is requested from Google or LinkedIn at all. You can change your mind at any time through the Cookies link in the footer of any page, which clears the choice and asks again. Declining after accepting stops any further collection; to remove cookies already set, clear them in your browser.
If you would rather not be tracked by LinkedIn anywhere, LinkedIn offers its own opt-out in your LinkedIn account's advertising settings, which applies across every site using the Insight Tag, not only ours.
From deployed sensors: Detection data from drones operating within our customers' deployment zones. This data includes the drone's serial number, position, altitude, and (under EU Delegated Regulation 2019/945) the operator's ground coordinates. The drone broadcasts this information in the clear; AerDefence receives but never transmits.
2. Legal basis
We process customer contact data under legitimate interest and contract. We process drone broadcast data under the data-controller agreement we hold with each deployment's operator (the event organiser, airport, or estate). We process website analytics and advertising data on the basis of your consent, which is why nothing is set until you give it. For the LinkedIn Insight Tag, LinkedIn Ireland Unlimited Company and AerDefence are joint controllers for the collection and transfer of that data.
3. Retention
- Contact-form messages: 24 months, then deleted.
- Analytics: Google Analytics cookies expire after 24 months. Analytics data is retained for 14 months, then deleted.
- LinkedIn advertising: LinkedIn sets the lifetime of its own cookies, which is published in LinkedIn's cookie policy. LinkedIn states that direct identifiers are removed within seven days and the remaining data is deleted within 180 days.
- Detection logs: retention schedule is set per deployment, typically 30 days for live-event deployments and 180 days for permanent installations. Longer retention requires a written instruction from the data controller.
- ECAIRS incident reports: retained for seven years per IAA requirements.
4. Your rights
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of any personal data we hold about you by emailing dpo@aerdefence.ie. We will respond within thirty calendar days. If you are unsatisfied with our response you may lodge a complaint with the Irish Data Protection Commission.
5. Storage
Detection data and contact-form submissions are stored inside EU data centres.
Google Analytics and the LinkedIn Insight Tag are the exceptions, and only if you accept them: Google and LinkedIn may process that data outside the EEA, including in the United States, under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and their standard contractual clauses. If you would rather that did not happen, decline the cookies — the rest of the site works exactly the same.
6. Updates
Material changes to this notice will be announced at the top of this page for at least sixty days before taking effect.
